Sometimes, the smallest changes in a home make the biggest difference in someone’s comfort, peace, and sense of belonging. 💙

When I began designing homes and vacation rentals with neurodiverse guests in mind, I realized how simple it can be to create an environment that feels safe and soothing — yet how rarely we stop to think about it.

Here are just a few easy and inexpensive ways you can make your home more autism-friendly:
1️⃣ Offer sensory-friendly items like fidgets, stress balls, noise-canceling headphones, or a bean bag chair.
2️⃣ Modify lighting by installing a dimmer switch.
3️⃣ Avoid using strong scents or harsh cleaning products.
4️⃣ Install a security lock on the front door for safety and peace of mind (high and separate from keypad lock).
5️⃣ Keep colors calm and neutral to reduce sensory overload - no red walls here!
6️⃣ Anchor furniture in place to prevent tipping.
7️⃣ Add a weighted blanket for comfort and regulation.
8️⃣ Provide puzzles and coloring books for quiet engagement.

Each of these changes might seem small — but for families with children on the autism spectrum, they can transform a stressful trip into a truly welcoming experience.

But somewhere between late-night guest questions, chasing cleaners, and trying to keep up with Instagram… it got exhausting.

So much we could say here, but if you are like many - your vacation rental bookings feel down. Calendars aren't as full and you may feel a bit concerned about the future of your vacation rental.

HOWEVER, do NOT get stuck in the negative. Do NOT blame "oversaturated markets", there is so much in your control but you have to take a step back and take a fresh look at your vacation rental.

Look at:
- Decor
- Amenities
- Pricing

“Growth shouldn’t be so difficult, should it?”
That question hits home for me.

I started in this industry the way so many do — as a solo host doing everything myself. For years, I figured it out the hard way: late-night messages, DIY fixes, turnover stress, and pricing guesswork.

Eventually, I found my groove — and something shifted.

Happy 4th of July, fellow hosts, co-hosts, and vacation rental warriors! 🎆

Let’s be real: our “offices” aren’t cute little downtown storefronts with an Out to Lunch sign. Nope—our offices are the sofa where we answer guest messages at midnight, the cleaning closet we cry in sometimes, and our phones that never. stop. pinging.

Today, while everyone else is chilling by the beach or lighting sparklers, I’ll probably:
🔥 Answer at least three “How do I work the thermostat” texts.
🔥 Panic-scroll Airbnb when a guest says “We have a problem…”
🔥 Check my calendar five times to make sure no one’s checking in early.
🔥 Tell myself I’m definitely going to take a break… right after the next guest message.

Because building a dream business means the hustle doesn’t take a holiday—but it also means I’m grateful for every guest, every booking, and even the occasional 2 a.m. call. ❤️🤍💙

Husband, dad, and the kind of guy who thinks “slowing down” is a suggestion for other people. Definitely.

He’s sarcastic, sharp, and somehow still outworks people half his age—usually while pretending he’s “just piddling.” 🙃 Whether he was creating a sermon or crafting something out of various species of lumber, Dad’s always been steady, stubborn (the good kind… mostly), and full of quiet wisdom that shows up right when you need it.

I definitely inherited some of his traits—like the drive to build something meaningful, help people feel at home, and get way too excited about a good to-do list. (Still working on the patience part, though. That gene might’ve skipped me. 😅)

Tulips are one of my favorite flowers. I'm not the biggest fan of roses like many, but instead I prefer tulips, daffodils, lilies and other springtime flowers!

May can be so cheery with all the spring flowers in bloom depending on where you are in the world! Take a little time this month to stop and smell the flowers - whatever your preference is!
